Fordyce spots - are small, painless, white or yellowish nodules that can appear on the lips, oral mucosa, genitals, and other areas of the body. They are a normal occurrence and do not pose a health risk, but they can cause aesthetic discomfort.

How common is this problem?
Fordyce granules are found in a significant portion of the population. According to some studies, more than 50% of adults experience them, and these formations are more common in men than in women.

Methods of removal
There are several methods of removing Fordyce granules, each of which has its own characteristics:
Laser therapy: Using a laser allows for precise and effective removal of granules, minimizing the risk of damage to surrounding tissue. The procedure takes just a few minutes and is performed under local anesthesia. Usually, after treatment, barely noticeable "crusts" form at the site of the granules, which fall off on their own within 4-7 days, revealing renewed skin without cosmetic defects. Here at Dr. Uskov's Clinic we have also developed a gentle protocol for patients who want an even gentler recovery or who have an extensive treatment area. Depending on the individual patient's situation, we use various modern lasers to remove Fordyce granules, including Er:Yag, CO2, Thulium and Diode.
Cryotherapy: Liquid nitrogen exposure freezes and destroys the granules. The method requires precise control of the freezing depth to avoid damage to healthy tissue. We do not use this treatment method due to its inaccuracy.
Electrocoagulation: Removal of granules using high-frequency current. This method is effective, but can be more painful and cause more damage to surrounding tissue, and therefore requires a longer recovery time and has a higher risk of complications. Because of its relative aggressiveness compared to lasers we do not use it.
Surgical removal: Used extremely rarely and only in cases of large formations. Involves opening the skin and removing it with subsequent suturing of the wound.

Advantages of laser removal
At Dr Uskov Kliinik we use lasers almost exclusively because of its many advantages:
High precision: Lasers allow you to act directly on the granules without affecting the surrounding tissue.
Minimally invasive: The procedure does not require any incisions, which reduces the risk of complications.
Fast Recovery: Patients can return to their daily activities almost immediately after the procedure.
Better aesthetic results: Laser removal provides smooth skin without visible scars, improving the appearance and increasing the patient's quality of life.
