Laser removal of hyperpigmentation above the upper lip (melasma mustache)

Pigmentation above the upper lip is a common aesthetic concern, especially in women. It may be related to hormonal changes, sun exposure, medications, or heredity.

Modern laser treatment at Dr. Uskov’s clinic effectively and safely removes hyperpigmentation, restoring an even skin tone and self-confidence.

Before and after photographs showing hyperpigmentation above a woman’s upper lip successfully treated with laser.
This result is after just one procedure. The skin is lighter, the pigment has disappeared, and the lip contour looks natural.

Darkening of the skin above the upper lip is seen by some as a serious cosmetic flaw, especially because this area is always visible. Pigmented “mustache” often becomes a source of insecurity and affects self-esteem.

Therefore, treating hyperpigmentation is not just a cosmetic procedure, but a way to restore facial harmony and psychological comfort.

Advantages of laser treatment

Why laser is the optimal method for treating hyperpigmentation:

• Nd:YAG laser (532/1064 nm): effectively breaks down melanin without damaging healthy tissue.

• Alexandrite laser (755 nm): works well for dense and persistent pigmentation.

• Picosecond systems: minimize the risk of complications and provide a short recovery period.

The laser acts selectively. Its energy is absorbed only by the pigment, so the outcome is predictable, and the skin recovers quickly without marks.

Treatment protocol at Dr. Uskov’s clinic

Treatment begins with an in-person consultation that includes visual examination, digital dermatoscopy, assessment with a Wood’s lamp and in the infrared range, evaluation of pigment depth and type, skin phototype, and overall condition. This diagnostics allows the doctor to select the optimal laser type and settings precisely.

Individual plan: 1 to 3 procedures

The number of sessions depends on pigment depth:

• Superficial hyperpigmentation is removed in 1 session.

• Deeper forms require 2 to 3 sessions at 4 to 6 week intervals.

The effect appears gradually. The skin becomes lighter, the tone evens out, and the result becomes more stable after each session.

Modern equipment

Dr. Uskov’s clinic uses certified medical lasers across all key wavelengths from 532 to 1319 nm. This lets the physician choose the optimal parameter combination for a specific type of hyperpigmentation. All equipment meets international safety standards IEC/EN 60601 and 60825 and is used only by trained specialists.

Maintenance therapy

After the procedure you must use creams with SPF 30 to 50 or higher. If needed, topical products with brightening and regenerative effects are prescribed. This approach consolidates the result, helps prevent quick recurrence and promotes healthy skin radiance.

Recovery and aftercare

After the procedure the skin may be slightly pink or sensitive for 1 to 2 days. Avoid sun exposure, tanning beds, saunas and intense physical activity during the first three days. Full recovery usually takes 3 to 12 days.
