Nose surgery (rhinoplasty) scar treatment

After surgical procedures on the nose, for example rhinoplasty or removal of growths, noticeable scars can remain. Modern laser technologies allow these skin changes to be corrected effectively, restoring facial harmony and self-confidence.

Relevance of the issue
After rhinoplasty or other nasal surgeries, scars may form that disrupt facial aesthetics and cause psychological discomfort. Patients often note that even a small mark on the skin is noticeable and affects self-confidence. Laser correction helps smooth scars and even out their color and texture, restoring a natural appearance.
Why it is important to start treatment early
Optimal results are achieved when therapy begins early, a few weeks after suture removal. Early intervention helps limit the formation of dense tissue and makes the scar less pronounced.
Mature scars also respond well to laser correction, although the treatment course will be somewhat longer.
Effectiveness of laser technologies
Different types of lasers are used to correct post-surgical scars on the nose:
Ablative (CO₂, Er:YAG): renew the superficial skin layers and stimulate new collagen formation, which is especially effective for dense and atrophic scars.
Non-ablative (Nd:YAG, PDL, Er:Glass): act gently, activating recovery processes without damaging the epidermis.
A course usually includes 3 to 6 sessions at intervals of 2 to 4 weeks. Even after the first session, improvements in skin color and texture are noticeable.

What affects the treatment outcome
The result depends on many factors:
• scar type: atrophic, hypertrophic, or keloid
• depth and stage of healing
• the patient’s age and skin condition
• individual tendency to hyperpigmentation
• the scar’s location and size
Approach at Dr. Uskov’s clinic
Dr. Uskov’s clinic uses a comprehensive approach to treating post-surgical facial scars. We use lasers across all wavelengths employed worldwide: CO₂, Er:YAG, Nd:YAG, PDL, Er:Glass, and others. All procedures are performed by experienced physicians under the guidance of Dr. Alexander Uskov, an international expert. We treat both early and mature scars, achieving significant aesthetic and clinical improvements.
Diagnostics before starting treatment
Before treatment, diagnostics include an in-person examination, digital dermatoscopy, assessment with a Wood’s lamp and in the infrared range and if necessary, ultrasound of the skin and soft tissues.
This approach allows for an accurate evaluation of the scar’s depth and structure, selection of the optimal laser type and prediction of the treatment outcome.
Additional supportive methods
In some cases laser therapy is combined with additional methods:
• silicone sheets and gels to improve skin elasticity
• injectable medications (for example, corticosteroids) when there is a tendency toward keloid formation
• device-based techniques: microtherapy, physiotherapy, PRP
This combined approach helps enhance and consolidate the result.
The first lasers for scar correction appeared in the second half of the twentieth century. Since then the technology has improved significantly. Modern fractional and non-ablative systems allow for targeted treatment with a high degree of safety and predictable outcomes.
Why patients choose our clinic
• International experience: Dr. Alexander Uskov is an expert of the European Society for Laser Dermatology (ESLD) and the president of the Estonian Society of Laser Medicine.
• Modern technologies: the clinic uses lasers across all major wavelengths for scar treatment.
• Safety: premium medical devices are used, along with protocols based on international standards.
• Personalized approach: every treatment plan is tailored to the patient’s characteristics and the scar’s location.
Consultation is the first step toward results
Every case is unique, and only an in-person consultation will determine the optimal course of treatment. At the visit Dr. Uskov will carry out diagnostics, explain the available therapy options, and create an individual recovery plan.
